Japanese New Yera's dish Ozoni

Ozoni originally began as a sacred dish of boiled rice cake offered to the gods. It is an indispensable dish for the New Year in Japan, and is filled with prayers for a bountiful harvest in the New Year and for the health of the family.

[Ingredients] Serves 4

Prepare 600ml soup stock and ingredients of your choice

Ingredients

  • 1/4 daikon radish, cut into chunks about 5 mm thick
  • 1/3 carrot, 5mm thick, cut into desired shape
  • Leafy vegetables (spinach/garland chrysanthemum, etc.) - Boil in broth for 30 seconds
  • 1 bunch of mitsuba leaves, cut into 3-4 cm lengths
    ✴︎ I also used shiitake mushrooms and kelp to make the broth.

Put 600 soup stock and 4 tablespoons white soup stock and 4 teaspoons soy sauce in a pot.

Cut 1 chicken thigh (500g) into bite-sized pieces and simmer in a pot.
 *Remove scum as needed.

Add daikon radish, carrot and shiitake mushrooms and simmer for 5 minutes.

Bake the rice cake for 5 minutes.
