Bizan Kiln

Bizan Kiln

Founded in the late Meiji period (1868-1912) as a Kutani-yaki painting kiln, the kiln has been well known and loved for its traditional style infused with the sensibility of each era. While reflecting 360 years of tradition, the works, mainly Kutani Gosai, blend seamlessly into modern life and can be enjoyed on a daily basis. The modern face of Kutani-yaki, while inheriting its traditions, will continue to represent Bizan-Kiln in the future.

Charm of

1)Place of Origin

All products handled by Bizan Kiln are made in Japan. The base material is made in Ishikawa Prefecture by Kutani Pottery or in Gifu Prefecture by Mino. The tea strainers are made in Tsubame-Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture, which is famous for its metalworking products. All the painting is done by hand, one by one, in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture.

2)Coloring(彩色)

The paint is applied to each design with a brush, carefully adjusting the viscosity of the "Japanese paints", which change according to temperature and humidity. A thicker layer of paint produces a darker color, while a thinner layer produces a lighter color. The finished product varies slightly depending on the temperature of the kiln and its position in the kiln, and no two pieces are exactly alike. When you touch it, you can see that there are more irregularities in the painted area than you would expect. This is the warmth of handmade work.

3)Color

White china goes well with any food and does not clash.
In comparison, Kutani ware is bold and colorful, and unfortunately, some people may be put off by this. However, try actually placing the dishes on a plate. The vibrant colors will make your dish look even more delicious.
