Product Description

This product features a painting of the national treasure "KOUHAKUBAIZU BYOUBU" by Korin Ogata (1658-1716).

Ogata Korin was a popular painter who worked in Kyoto during the mid-Edo period. Korin was born into one of Kyoto's leading kimono merchants, Karigane-ya, and was exposed to the decorative nature of costume designs from an early age, which is why Korin's works are often described as "decorative".

Korin Ogata, a talented artist with an excellent sense of composition and color, as well as a wealth of modeling skills and imagination, has created a number of works, each of which has an inexhaustible charm.

At present, three of Korin Ogata's masterpieces have been designated as national treasures. Among them, the masterpiece of his later years is "KOUHAKUBAIZU BYOUBU".

The stream of water boldly drawn in the center of the gold background of the two folding screens is truly decorative, and the ripples designed by the water catch the eye. The contrast with the realism of the red and white plums painted on the left and right, and the overall composition, which gives a sense of depth from the empty space, are stunningly beautiful.

How to care for Kutani ware

Care and Maintenance

Adorned with exquisite floral colors and gold paint doesn’t mean it was designed just for display.

Kutani pottery was designed and made for daily joy.

With proper care and knowledge, this timeless piece promises years of delightful use.

Hand washing is recommended whenever possible

You can use a soft sponge and a mild detergent to clean the dish. It is important to wash gently with a soft sponge or cloth.

While you can use a dishwasher, we recommend hand washing as much as possible for some items such as those made of gold and silver, which tend to peel off after a long period of use.

Be careful with microwave ovens

Do not use products made of gold or silver in the microwave or oven.

Sparks may fly off and cause the surface to become dirty or damaged.

Rapid temperature change

Do not use products made of gold or silver in the microwave or oven.

Sparks may fly off and cause the surface to become dirty or damaged.
