Kutani ware, known overseas as a traditional work of art, has transcended the boundaries of craftsmanship since the late Showa era in Japan (1960s-1980s), evolving from a traditional craft to a fine art.

 

Among the techniques that developed during this period is the art of "Ginsai". Each pattern, meticulously crafted by hand using silver foil, possesses a beauty so unique that it truly appears as a unique work of art in the world.

How to care for Kutani ware

Care and Maintenance

Adorned with exquisite floral colors and gold paint doesn’t mean it was designed just for display. 

Kutani pottery was designed and made for daily joy. 

With proper care and knowledge, this timeless piece promises years of delightful use.​

Hand washing is recommended whenever possible

You can use a soft sponge and a mild detergent to clean the dish. It is important to wash gently with a soft sponge or cloth.​ 

While you can use a dishwasher, we recommend hand washing as much as possible for some items such as those made of gold and silver, which tend to peel off after a long period of use.​

Be careful with microwave ovens

Do not use products made of gold or silver in the microwave or oven. 

Sparks may fly off and cause the surface to become dirty or damaged.​
