Product Description

The world of Kutaniyaki, with a history of about 360 years

Kutaniyaki is characterized by a painting technique in which lines are drawn in an indigo blue called gosu and painted with a thick layer of five colors (red, yellow, green, purple and navy blue) called gosai (five colors).

The bold overglaze painting gives a strong impression.

What is "Yoshidaya" ?

Yoshidaya style refers to the style of ceramics fired in the kilns of the Toyoda family (business name Yoshidaya), a premier school of kutaniyaki, especially those operated by Toyoda Den'emon, who was active during the Bunsei period (1818-1829). Kutaniyaki in the Yoshidaya style reflects the peaceful culture of the Tokugawa period and is characterized by a soft painting style.

This style is considered the most inherited from the Ko-Kutani style, with motifs of flowers and birds, landscapes, small patterns, and flowers and grasses painted in blue, yellow and purple. The Yoshidaya style is also called "Ao-kutani" because it is characterized by the absence of red, one of the five colors used in the Ko-Kutani style.

How to care for Kutani ware

Care and Maintenance

Adorned with exquisite floral colors and gold paint doesn’t mean it was designed just for display.

Kutani pottery was designed and made for daily joy.

With proper care and knowledge, this timeless piece promises years of delightful use.

Hand washing is recommended whenever possible

You can use a soft sponge and a mild detergent to clean the dish. It is important to wash gently with a soft sponge or cloth.

While you can use a dishwasher, we recommend hand washing as much as possible for some items such as those made of gold and silver, which tend to peel off after a long period of use.

Be careful with microwave ovens

Do not use products made of gold or silver in the microwave or oven.

Sparks may fly off and cause the surface to become dirty or damaged.

Rapid temperature change

Do not use products made of gold or silver in the microwave or oven.

Sparks may fly off and cause the surface to become dirty or damaged.
