This product shows "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji: The Great Wave off Kanagawa" by the world famous Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849).
Large waves roll violently in front of your eyes, and Mount Fuji sits in the distance between the waves. The exquisite composition, which contrasts movement and stillness, and distance and closeness, has been called "The Great Wave" even overseas, and has been praised worldwide, including by painter Van Gogh and composer Debussy. The boats tossed by the waves were called "Oshiokori-bune" and were used to transport fresh fish and vegetables.
Katsushika Hokusai, a genius painter who created many masterpieces, was the only Japanese person featured in USA LIFE magazine's Millennium special issue, "The 100 Most Important Events and People of the Past, 1000 Years".
It was through Hokusai's tireless efforts that this worldwide recognition was achieved 150 years after his death. Hokusai was a hard worker with a passion for research. Not content with simply mastering the ukiyo-e style, he incorporated techniques from various painting schools and also studied Chinese and Western painting.
