Product Description
This medium sized bowl is decorated with Kutani ware's red painted phoenixes. It can be used for everyday table use as well as for entertaining. It is mainly painted in red, one of the five colors of Kutani ware. Akae saibyo is one of the most popular painting styles in Kutaniyaki, and the traditional style is to draw figures, flowers and birds in red in a precise manner, filling in with small patterns and adding gold paint. This style was created at the Miyamoto-ya kiln, which was inherited from the Yoshidaya kiln, and is also called "Iidaya" because the master potter, Iidaya Hachiroemon, established the unique red painting style. The meticulous brushwork, carefully applied to each feather of the phoenix, is so beautiful that it overwhelms the viewer. The expression varies from sumptuous to simple, depending on the shade of deep red and the degree of painting.
The artist, Yoshinori Fukuda, is a traditional craftsman who has been selected for numerous art exhibitions in a row and is highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad. He has mastered various traditional Kutaniyaki techniques such as Akae, Yoshidaya and Ko-Kutani, and his works have a wide range of attractive designs. From beautiful nature to living creatures in motion, he captures them in an airy style and creates them by applying the careful coloring typical of Kutaniyaki to the bone drawing with a delicate touch like that of Japanese style painting.
