As the weather gradually warms up and the days become warmer and sweatier, cold dishes such as soba, somen, and chilled udon (udon noodles) are replacing the winter staple, hot-pot dishes.
In fact, my family did not have soba choko (small bowls for noodles). I have spent the last few years with only a vague idea that glassware is cool and nice, and if I were to buy one, I would want to buy a high-quality one....
It was then that I came across Kutani-ware soba choko (small cups for noodles). There are many kinds of soba choko, all with different patterns, and it was quite difficult to choose the favorite one, but I chose four that are similar in color but all have different patterns. My three-year-old daughter quickly secured the yellow gourd-patterned bowl as her own, which is interesting because even at three years old, she has her own preferences for patterns.
It's funny because just by adding this soba choko to our dining table, I felt like I was eating at a fancy restaurant when I was eating soba, which is something I usually do in a casual manner. I thought that this Soba Choko is not only for eating noodles. It is also a perfect size to hold side dishes such as simmered dishes, soaked vegetables, side dishes, and so on. It is a perfect match for dumplings, rice cakes, and other Japanese sweets! I am looking forward to the day when I can use it, as I think the Kutani ware pattern will look better with monochromatic Japanese sweets.
Soba choko made of glass are cool and lovely, but I really recommend Kutani ware's versatile Soba choko.
