The bold overglaze painting gives a strong impression.
What is "Akae" ?
"Akae" is a type of Japanese ceramic painting that is mainly decorated with red pigment. This technique was developed during the Edo period and is particularly well known in Imariyaki and Kutaniyaki ceramics.
Akae is characterized by delicate patterns using vivid red pigment. This red pigment is made from iron oxide, which is fired at high temperatures to produce its characteristic hue. The patterns are diverse, including plants, animals, landscapes, and figures, and are expressed through line drawings and fills.
