What is AkaeSaibyou?

Kutani Yaki's Akae Saibyou is a technique in which a red pigment called bengara, which contains iron, is used to draw patterns and designs with lines as thin as a hair using an extremely fine brush. It is one of the three main techniques of Kutaniyaki and symbolizes the pinnacle of traditional craftsmanship. Kutaniyaki "Akae Sai Byobu" is a traditional technique of delicate red line drawing revived in the modern age by Takeyama Fukushima. Self-taught in this once-extinct technique, he has earned a reputation both in Japan and abroad.
