Kutani Hanazume Technique

The Hanazume technique was one of the most popular kutaniyaki designs during the Meiji and Taisho periods. It is said that this technique was developed with the West in mind. The traditional patterns of various flowers, especially peonies, painted with gold are rich in variation.

The appeal of the Kutaniyaki Hanazume technique

The Kutani Yaki Hanazume technique has been used by master potters throughout Japan to create masterpieces that have been handed down to the present day with their rich colors and magnificent gold painting. Works painted with this technique produce vivid "hanae" (floral paintings) in which flowers bloom three-dimensionally and seem to sway in the wind, giving the entire hanazume work a lively atmosphere.

How to enjoy hanazume

There are wine glasses and other items that use the hanazume technique, and they are wonderful examples of how to enjoy the beauty of hanazume in everyday life. We recommend that you enjoy them in a different atmosphere.
